Cannot work it out, because at the time this photo was taken only 2936, 2940 and 2911 were at Miller Street due for scrapping and they were all painted in private hire colours. 2960 was scrapped in 2004 along with 2914 and 2946 whilst 2919 was scrapped in 1997 and 2930 in 2000. 2945 was scrapped in 2007 but was still in service until Jan 2007. Is it 2947 before it was sold to McColls?

Ofcourse. What a shame. 2953 was sold to WM Fire service for training purposes and then scrapped. What a waste of a perfectly good DP Metrobus that had nothing wrong with it.

This DP Metrobus was the 2911 (D911NDA). On the 29th October 1996 this bus operated the 08.30 966 from Walsall to The airport/NEC. On the 12th February 1998 it operated the 10.30 966 from Walsall to the airport/NEC. Just 2 of the many journeys it did. Look at it now. Should never have been scrapped. If no longer required as a private hire vehicle it should have gone back to Walsall garage for the 366 route.

This Bus was for a time in the late 80's, stored at Cleveland Transit's Depot on Church Road in Stockton on Tees Teesside. It was apparently owned at that time by one of the Drivers, but I never found out who. I remember bemoaning him at the time as to why the chap had'nt preserved a native Teesside vehicle. It disappeared around 1990/1, and I last saw this bus at the Fleetwood rally around 2004/5 in the ownership of the Maypole Travel company. To see a picture of it at Stockton Depot, go to my site at Photopic, and find 'Classic North East Transport by Mr Chris Hall', then look at the Cleveland Transit Service Vehicles, and the 500 Bus Cleveland Transit's ex Southdown Queen Mary collections, and it appears in the background of a couple of the pictures in those two collections.

The location is Asda supermarket in Rawtenstall, and yes it's still there. Free buses used to run from Accrington and Blackburn to this supermarket. All the buses in the photo's still exist. FTB630B is now an open top bus, and has just been used by the Daily Mirror to tour the country to promote it's Hope not Hate campaign. FTB631B and XTF98D were withdrwan by Rossendale in 1982, are both now preserved.

Rossendale withdraw it's last 4 PD3's in November 1982. FTE630B went in 1981, and is now owned by The London Bus Export Company, and is hired out as a publicity Vehicle. XTF98D was one of the last 4 in service, and was sold straight into preservation. It spent many years at bus museum in St Helens, before passing to it's current owner for restoration.

This and the following pictures of Rossendale buses are all taken at Rawtenstall ASDA. The building's still there, taken over by Tesco last year. The Titans had, I think, been withdrawn from general service at this point and were doing free supermarket shuttles up and down the Rossendale valley. (They also did the school baths runs with a young me on!) I think they were retired a couple of years later in '82/3. I could be wrong, but I think both these on this pic are still alive... XTF98D preserved, and FTE630B as the daily mirror's anti-bullying campaign bus.

This Bus was new to Newcastle Corporation in 1963, as part of it's Trolleybus replacement programme. It has Weymann BodyworkH44/34F, and passed to Tyneside PTE in June 1970, then to Tyne and Wear PTE in 1974. It was withdrawn and sold to Cardiff Corporation in Sept 77 along with 119/24/30/41JVK, becoming 510-4 in the Cardiff Fleet. A similar example 221JVK is in active preservation, and wonderfully restored in the North East.

An evocative series of what was a superb municipal transport depot. Dating from 1903/4 & the outstanding tramway system ..converted to sole bus use after 1949, it is tragic to think that it is to be demolished for "modern" development, thus removing another reminder of when Leicester had probably the best tramway system & later motor buses in the country. That you for taking these photographs....... Geoff Creese,( Author "Leicesters Trams" & Leicester & it's Trams ) Pub Irwell Press.

Interesting picture but all five buses fully visible are National Welsh (there's a bit of a Taff-Ely Reliance on the left). For all my National Welsh photos in the Aberdare area I never got one of the 174 service, so it's good to see that rare service recorded at all. It only had four journeys a day and ran from about 1981 to September 1982.

I just wanted to let you know, that the bus pictured would not be VWK 229, as that one was from the 1958 batch and they had differant type front window vents, to the ones on the bus in your picture. The bus pictured is from Coventry Transport's 1963 batch of Daimler CVG's and by looking at another view of this bus (interior view), from what i can see of its fleet number downstairs on its bulkhead, it looks like 329y ( 329 CRW ).

This is a great photograph, but at the same time also very sad, to see two of Coventry's finest Daimlers, ending up in such a sad looking state. There are only 3 years differance in age between these two buses (1963 CVG6 and 1966 Fleetline !) and the newest of the two, is actually in the oldest livery. It is still in its Marshall Red and Ivory livery and the last bus in public service in Coventry in this livery, was withdrawn in September 1979, a month after the last CVG6 !!!

Note the rail across the front windows is missing and the building visable through them is the former paintshop

Extraordinary photos. Your style is very unusual, if you don't mind me saying so ! Most bus photographers concentrate on the vehicle, but much of your stuff seems to capture the whole feel of the street scene so well. Is that deliberate ? Is the grainy black and white look deliberate or was it a matter of expense at the time ?? Whatever it works ! I was taking similar around the same time, particularly marking the end of the BCT fleetline. My favourite areas were at depots, so I have precious few street scenes. Most of my stuff is colour, cira 1977-82. Thanks for the memories. Wasn't Brum different then ! Simon Avery

I was on the way to Wythall and took the shot on the way the next station is Spring Rd , if you have an A to Z you will see that the train passes the back of the bus garage, I suspect that it would be imposible to tack the shot from the sam angle today as I took the photo with the window open

TGG386W was the Volvo Ailsa demonstrator bus it ran for a time from the now gone Oldbury bus garage it was a forerunner to this type of bus http://my.bus.photos.fotopic.net/p44234638.html the engine was at the front end, SDA775S was the Foden demonstrator bus WMPTE decided not to got with a fleet of Foden,s and instead decided to buy the Birmingham built Metrobus The Metrobus is now coming to the end of their working life in Brum and it is thought that they will all be gone by 2010 some of them are going on to new owners but many are to be scrapped a sad end, I hope this helps

Hi, can someone tell me what this type of bus is, I remember seeing them round birmingham I think about 13ish years ago? I think so, anyway, I remember a bus with a hollow containing the back window that seemed more modern than fleetlines I've seen in pictures, but I was only a small child so could be wrong.

Interesting selection of vehicles. I think this dates from Summer 1979 The ones to the right are all Ex Coventry Transport ECW Dailer Fleetlines with up to 4 years of life left in them, the bus to the left is Leyland Atlantean 1357 (CDU357B), withdrawn as indicated by the painted out fleet number, and in the distance between them is ex bus 291 (291RW) which lost its roof under a low bridge at Bulkington in 1973 and survived at Harnall Lane as a tree lopper until 1982

This Bus is Cleveland Transit's H115 (YVN515T) a 1978 Leyland Fleetline FE30 with Northern Counties H43/31F bodywork. It was displayed at that years Commercial Motor Show, where it is seen (through the crowds) on this picture. It entered service with Transit on 29.11.78, and was withdrawn in 1990, going to Kimes of Folkingham, where it was de-capitated in an RTA with a low bridge. The Bus was scrapped soon after. To see other Buses on Teesside go to Google, and type in 'The 500 Group' and you will see our site.

The was was moved from "Storage" to the other side of the garage this can mean one of two things they are, that a customer is going to pick the bus up within days, or that the engine will be steamed cleaned and then the engine and any other bits like glass or panels will be used to keep the other Metrobuses on the road I would geuss that the bus will go for scrap ?

As far as I know it is still in the yard the buses only go through these gate for two reasons they are that they are collected by a customer or that the scrap man will collect a bus, after first the engine is taken out by TWM.

Iwould say not because the driver did not stop I was at Miller St for a while I suspect that he used it as a short cut cutting out the main light at Newtown Row and then rejoing the road further down near to the main post office I have seen a coople of buses use this short cut before but by the time I have got my camera out it has gone, mind you I do spend far to much time in Miller St

Worn out! Worn out!! wash your mouth out for saying such a thing, this bus was until the accident a tool for teaching drivers, and before that its use was for the passengers of Brum, the only time a bus whatever shape or form is when the scrap man is bending over the remains with a big stick the other thing is the bus is a reminder that Birmingham did at one time build buses

It was all pat of a plot to fool me when a bus goes into that part of the garage itis the norm the the engine and bus will part there I now think that it was parked there for reasons of space at the time of typeing that part of the garage is empty (but not for long I suspect)

I would say not it is possible that the next step for these buses is to go onto another owner or they will be scrapped it depends on a number of things 1 What state the engine is in 2 What state the body is in 3 Will there be a demand for the bus by small private operaters All the Metrobuses will not taken off the road by 2010

By the fact that it is in the scrap line, or the fact that it now leans to the left, or the fact that the tax is due up at the end of Oct, It may not be finnished yet and still carry on as a trainer

I would be very surprised if this bus made into preservation as there is no stairway to get to the uper deck, this would mean a rebuild of the stairway unless it was brought for spares? for another metrobus, talking of the same I did notice that one of the windows on the upper deck is open how did this happen if you cannot get to the top deck ?
[#8769041] 2008-09-04 19:37:21 Left by (#0) Reply
It may carry on as a trainer. Remember 2929 was in the scrapline last month, for a few days but it has now gone back into service as a trainer hasn't it??
[#8769162] 2008-09-05 07:05:17 Left by Robert Deloyde (#0) Reply
I think that it may go back into service but, it does depend on the he cost of the repirs to the bus as it does lean to the left, N.E.W.M. may say sod it it these trainers have a limited life anyway, so they may pull the plug on the bus, if it goes to the right hand side bay of the shed in front of the bus then it will go for scrap, if it goes to the left hand bay then it will be repaired I did see a trainer in there the other day and that was having the roof repaired over two days so the question is how much will it cost to get the bus repaired??????
[#8769431] 2008-09-06 12:27:04 Left by (#0) Reply
Leans to the left?????
[#8769438] 2008-09-06 13:18:59 Left by Robert Deloyde (#0) Reply
Yus its leans to the left I have been told that it may be because there is no air in the system but the bus does lean to the left or the right as you look at the bus

Where the buses are parked is a short term parking, the buses have been in Miller st for a while I suspect that they (Three Buses ) may soon leave, the other fact is that I have never seen this section of Miller St so empty you can now see from one side to the other I can only assume that there may be new buses coming on stream and that there may be a number of Metrobuses coming out of service soon

The bus may go to perrys yard in bromyard (other lynx,s have gone there) Bromyard aint that far and is driveable When a bus goes from store to the what I call the mechanakin side of Miller St a number of things then can happen the bus may go for preservation I do not think this will happen as there a number of bits missing from the bus (glass and panels) Or the bus will be scrapped in two ways the engine and the body go their sepperate ways or the scrap man will collect a bus and drive it away on trade plates I think this is a good possibilty time will tell If I am correct I think that the bus will go to the scrapp yard tommorow (Friday ) or some time during the week time will tell

The problem is the cost of the repairs to the bus in man hours and the cost of those man hours the other problem is will the insurance pay out on the buses, is the burn out problem a fault with the bus, you can see a bus in town in need of water on a daily basis and they do shut down when the bus gets excited the bus that is They have been in the yard for some time now in the mean time both these buses are not earning their keep and getting older Chris can you get in contact I may have some info about the Yardley Wood garage birthday celebration and I aint got your Email address that is of course assuming you are intrested, And one other thing the Metrobus trainers seem to have gone on the missing list I have not seen them for a couple of days it may be that they were out of course And finally there were a number of "suits" at Miller St today so there may be movement soon on the Metrobus side

what metro is in front of 2779 and why was 2779 withdrawn then
[#8783210] 2008-11-05 06:54:43 Left by Robert Deloyde (#0) Reply
To find out what is in front of 2779 you will have o go back a few photos, and all the buses on this sde of Miller St are in store and may possibly go back into service but I would not hold my breath for 2779 it will either go to a new owner or be scrapped

2931 is behind 2779, 2564 behind 2596.

They will have to fix the broken window screen first at least I think that it needs a repair in my defence the inside the yard is very dark and there does seem to be some damage to the front end

It's staying at BC. It was parked at Miller Street for a bit so that the BC engineers wouldn't strip it of parts while it was out of action.

This bus has been in Miller St for about two or three days now and is in the line up of scrappers, this may be because of the lack of space on the other side of Miller St or the bus may be in a poor state of health and soon go for scrap It may have soon go to a buyer, the back end looks odd to me I cannot put my finger on it, it may be that it has no addvert on the rear panel but some thing looks out of place, or is it me?
[#8785527] 2008-11-15 22:24:08 Left by Pete (#0) Reply
The White edged red stripe is too low down, as it normally goes just underneath the window rubber and joins up on the engine door at the top of the engine door, its probs had rear advert on the back and you couldnt tell. Or its recently had a donated engine door from another metro or bodywork done? Maybe its being sold / going to WA ?

Hi Robert i hope you dont mind me contacting you. I have set up a facebook group dedicated to the 50 bus route - druids heath to moseley. Its an integeral part of the transportation service in birmingham. Whilst looking for footage i notice alot of your work on you tube. I think it would be sensational if you could join the group. Your knowledge, skills and experience of buses in the midlands would be second to none. I bet you could tell a few stories. I appreciate you may not be on facebook. If not could you drop a few words of encouragement so i can post it on the site. Happy busing Richard
