| The present coach station in Digbeth is it could be said that it was well past it's sell by date and in fact will be knocked down and a new one to be built on the present site
In many City's and town's in Great Britain you will find a bus/coach station large or small, Birmingham has never really liked the bus station idea and preferred to have it's citizens queue for their buses in various streets in Birmingham rather than have them go to a bus station, it was only after a certain Mr Adolf Hitler tried to reorganise the city centre that the city fathers decide that Brum could do with a bus/coach station and so the Bull Ring Bus station was built, This was of course not to last and the station was to close at the same time that the Bull Ring Bus Station was being built another bus station was being built and yet never used , the bus/coach station is still there under the Central Library in Birmingham the entrance was near Paradise Circus the exit and that was the problem was to be in the Qeensway Tunnel you can still see were the exit is/was to be the next time you are in the tunnel as it bends to the left you will see a cutaway And that was the problem you would have had traffic merging in a tunnel there would have been traffic lights the stop the traffic in the tunnel so that the coaches/buses could leave the bus/coach station safely the public entrance/exit would have been just behind the present day entrance/exit to the library via two escalators it is rumoured that the escalators are still in position and never used you can see were they would have gone if you look at the photo marked "Bus or Coach Station Entrance" just behind the stairway |
